The Legislative Council has voted down a motion to force the disclosure of details of the two power companies’ tariff increase proposals, by invoking the Powers and Privileges Ordinance.
CLP Power and Hong Kong Electric have provided a Legco panel with part of the information, but asked for some data to be kept confidential. The Environment Secretary, Edward Yau, said some sensitive information should not be divulged, as it could affect the firms’ bargaining power, leading to potentially higher costs, and higher tariffs. |
